Justin sounded so good in his letters this week. We were so thankful he is adjusting well and is preparing to go to Jamaica in a couple of weeks. He is already halfway through his stay at the MTC. He said that the Bahamas are also part of his mission.

Tarlton also sounds great in his letters. He is back in Cordoba (Argentina) He has been out almost a year and a half now. We were pleased that he enjoyed Catamarca so well. He even was able to play the piano for their stake conference choir.

Jon had a great time at Regional try-outs in Tucson this week. He made regionals in both choir and trumpet. He could only choose one and chose choir. He is 8th chair out of 25 in the bass 1 section. He is looking forward to having his own room next week after we paint it. Sorry, he didn't get the bigger room - that will be Greg's office.

Anthon moved to a new place this week. Just a year ago he had never had his own bedroom, now he has his own room and bathroom. He is keeping busy going to school and working full time.

Braden is TDY for an other week. Shana sounded good when we visited this week. We are hoping to see them this spring. We have enjoyed the pictures they sent at Christmas time.

Jamie and Andrew are looking forward to moving back into their house in Tucson after renting it out while in training. This week should be eventful for them. I enjoyed a great day yesterday playing Monopoly and Apples to Apples, swinging and going for a walk with 3 little granddaughters.

Wendy and Nate probably feel like they have a bigger house now that their rental guest has found a new place. Hannah might get her own room again.

Brittany tried the clarinet for a few weeks, but was happy to return to the flute. She is adjusting fine overall to returning to Pima public school after schooling at home with Arizona Virtual Academy for the past year.

Greg was hit with the flu this week. Hopefully it won't linger too long. He has his annual refresher training tomorrow.

I am still enjoying my job at CMI. This week I learned the phone system. It's been great so far. I'm still a primary leader and love the children and those working in Primary. It's amazing how much gets done when everyone does their part.

Well that's an update for this week. I'm going to try to write more often.

Tarlton is doing great! He sounded so good on the phone this morning! I'm so thankful we were able to talk to him. He gave a talk last Sunday in spanish (15-20 minutes) and said it went ok, but he has a ways to go with the language.

Greetings to all from Greg and Lucy and Family:

The year 2009 is nearly over and we have had a busy year. Of course, with a large family, change is a function that varies by the numbers. An exhaustive review would be inappropriate to burden you with, but we can provide a brief summary.

We settled into our new home, still working on some finishing details, the focus being on insulating and opening new storage areas in the attic. Work on this has been limited more by lack of attention than resources, more attention being given to plumbing of some additional outdoor spigots and reworking our grey water system to expand our outdoor resources which still need a great deal of time and effort but because we dwell more inside, we tend to procrastinate.

We sent Tarlton to the Argentina Cordoba Mission in August, after a brief stay at the mission home. He is doing well and will have some stories to tell. He finds joy in this labor.

This year we took on a new puppy, a purebred Golden Retriever we named Oak (after his coloring) that now requires his own home and exercise zone which we have assembled. When I bought the materials for the dog house I was pleased to see that I had a fairly good sum in my account to do it with, so I did. The next day we got notice from the utility company that we were delinquent paying on our power bill. Oops! No wonder we had enough to build the house for the dog! What can I say? The dog is part of the family so he keeps the dog house. The rest of us are jealous, the dog got more for Christmas than the rest of us are likely to get.

This past week has been about illness, about hospital trips and ambulance rides (Jonathan). Jonathan erupted at a Phoenix Suns game and has shared this bug with the whole family. It wasn’t an option that he could decline so we have forgiven him. So far, we have survived it. We did attend a funeral a few weeks ago of my cousin’s daughter who died of the other sort of flu (H1N1). Neither version is pretty.

Now all that is past, we had our Family Christmas party. Except for Tarlton (who is excused) all the rest of the kids were here, and for the first time, we had all 5 of our granddaughters here at the same time. As predicted, it consisted of a lot of fun and photos. It is uncertain as to when this may re-occur, with Braden living in Kansas and everyone busy in school and with work, it is a hard thing to coordinate.

Today was a quiet day for us, being a holiday. I worked with the kids digging trenches for the water lines for the front. Justin was the real pick and shovel hero for the day, I don't know where he gets so much energy. We have installed a few facets already, want to add a few more. When I pressure tested the line yesterday for the first two facets, one of them blew ( I had dry fitted that link before becoming distracted. But it was funny! The facet launched!) Our yard is brown and ugly, but once we get a little vegetation and some landscaping going, I hope to improve the look. I found out that I'm allergic to mesquite trees, about the only thing growing here already. Now we have to decide if it is wise to leave a few in along the side, or pull them all out and replace them with something useful, like pecan trees or such.

We are keeping very busy with school, Grandma, shift work, and daily life. Anthon, Justin and I are taking classes this summer. I am taking Microsoft Word and Human Relations both online. The boys are taking the same trigonometry class on campus. (All EAC) So far it has been working out, but just adds to the daily coordination of schedules. This week our fuel pump in our Dodge truck failed and had to be replaced. We were down to 2 working vehicles with 5 drivers. One vehicle was a stick shift truck (Tarlton's Nissan) with only one operating door.
On Wednesday our vehicle scheduling was the worst. I don't remember exactly what happened in the morning, but here is from 11:00 to midnight with our two working vehicles: In Tarlton's truck, Anthon dropped Tarlton off at work (Pizza Hut) went to the bank and then to the noon class at the Institute. After Institute he went back to the bank for a couple of hours then to MVD and to work. In my car, I dropped Justin off at school and returned home. Then I drove Greg to work (30 minutes each way), picking up Justin from class on the way. I took dinner to a friend, dropped Jonathan and then later Justin off at the Church, picked up Tarlton from work and dropped him off at the church (YM and interviews) then picked up the three boys an hour after that. I finally asked Tarlton to pick up Greg at midnight and went to bed.
By Friday, Anthon had purchased his car. the truck was fixed, and my brother returned my mom's pick-up.
Grandma Sanders went to the doctor friday and her blood pressure is still under control. She is doing about the same, but seems a little more tired and a little less mobil.
Jonathan is at scout camp this week. Greg starts "morning watch" (midnight to 8 am) next week so for Father's day he will work from 4pm Saturday until 8 am Sunday. We'll celebrate when (or if) he wakes up in the afternoon.

Yesterday Tarlton graduated from EAC. He leaves to go to his mission on August 12. He will be sorely missed around here, so I got to get two years worth of work out of him quick! His graduation signals that Summer has started and our youngest three are still in school. Is there no end to it?

We are hoping to get a little camping in this summer, not sure where or when or for how long, but suspect it will be near, short and hot. We will last about as long as it takes to miss our air conditioning.

Tomorrow is Mother's Day. I'm still short of ideas and shorter of cash. Who was it that started this, anyway? The Greeting Card Industry? The florists? Don't get me wrong, we do love Mother, and our spouses and daughters, but sometimes I get a little frustrated having these 'occasions' so scheduled. I'd like to start scheduling a few occasions for such well intentioned, calendar stuffing, social engineers with a few days of my own. Happy Mothers day!

We're excited for Braden and Shana! They bought their first house today. Here's hoping they can get moved in before the baby comes. (She's due in a month.)

We received a nice letter from Anthon. Here is part of his last e-mail:
"My bike has been through a lot, if I could give you a brief history: I have replaced the brakes about 10 or more times, the tires each and one twice going on 3(not just the tube inside from flats but the tire due to wearing through the tread, the backlight once the front light three or four times, the whole gear system once and the seat once, the handle grips once and the basket reattached two or three times and the reflectors on the pettals have been shattered against the pavement to the point I no longer have any there but no need to replace them. and then the rims on my back tire split at a point and ruined the brakes so I had disconnected them and couldnt replace the wheel because the store didn't have any and to order would be a great deal of money so I will get a used one today from the office in taipei. but last night after riding a week on it without back breaks the metal split to the point it ruined the tire and we were in yang mei and had to walk to the train station and taxi home. it wasn't as bad as it sounds but it was a bit annoying. I didnt have much choice about the tire this whole week its a long story and everything i tried to do to get a better one new or used without spending a fortune didnt work till today. so anyways I am fine, still fighting a sore throat and cold but it has been much more mild than my companion's. thank you for your prayerslove elder ferrin"
